Being a “public power” company means we’re a customer-focused, not-for-profit utility. We exist to partner with the community to maximize energy value and quality of life in an environmentally responsible manner.

Safety first

Making sure our customers and employees are safe is paramount. In fact, safety is one of our core values. We want our employees to go home to their families safely each night, and we want the community to know how to be safe around our facilities and equipment, so they don’t get injured.

In 2018, LES won several awards from safety entities and industry peers, recognizing our commitment.

The National Safety Council awarded LES with the “Nebraska’s Safest Companies” distinction for the second year in a row, as well as the “Peak Safety Award” for the third year in a row. The American Public Power Association designated LES as a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3®) for delivering reliable and safe electric service.

We continue building a culture of safety through ongoing employee training, promotion of our company’s goals and celebrating our safety awards.


Reliable service

Another equally important core value is reliability. As your electric utility, we want you to always have power when you need it. We constantly track and monitor electric outages across our service area and measure our “system reliability” from this data. And, we are pleased to report that our reliability is again one of the highest in the nation, at 99.99%, and that the average LES customer lost power for less than one hour in 2018.

We also invest in our infrastructure. Benefits of this investment are not just minimizing the risk of annoying power outages, but also result in operations and maintenance savings and lower restoration of service costs. Just one example of this effort is our Duct Installation Project, aimed at inserting spare duct underground for the future installation of new cable as the existing cable reaches the end of its useful life. In 2018 alone, a total of 46 miles of this duct was installed.


Each day the LES team does what they do best to provide safe and reliable service, for nearly 280,000 people within 200 square miles, that in turn earns trust and builds our energy future.
