Affordability

Keeping rates affordable for customers

Many resources are required to ensure continuous power for our community. This isn’t something most people think about on a daily basis, but at LES, this is always top of mind.

Our electricity costs are among the lowest in the nation, and we work hard to maintain that distinction.

Producing constantly reliable power requires LES facilities and technology to be up-to-date and efficient. LES’ overall rates are the 11th lowest in the country, according to the nationwide study of 100 cities and their rates Jan. 1, 2019.

Every day, we make choices, negotiate deals and look for ways to reduce costs so that power is affordable for everyone in our community.

Affordability: LES in 2019

Controlling rates

For the third year in a row, LES proposed no systemwide rate increase.

Saving millions

The consistently high “AA” bond rating has translated to savings of millions of dollars in interest costs, helping to keep overall costs down and rates low.

Energy-efficiency upgrades

LES partnered with the Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties to help vulnerable households reduce energy use and costs. Using funds leftover from the 2018 Sustainable Energy Program, LES supplemented weatherization funding to install efficient heat pumps and air conditioners, refrigerators and enhance sealing and insulation. During 2019, the utility has provided $38,000 for 12 homes to fund energy efficiency measures that otherwise would not have qualified for weatherization funding.
