Public Power, not-for-profit, community-owned utility.

from our CEO

Power with a purpose.

Power with a purpose. Every job in our organization plays a key role in helping LES provide reliable and affordable electric service— it takes everyone at LES, working together, to serve our customers and build a stronger, more resilient community.

We have provided service to the area for more than 50 years. The achievements and recognitions outlined in this annual report are a testament to the talented and innovative employees who are dedicated to putting people first.

Keeping our employees, our customers and the community safe is paramount. If outages occur, we are always ready to rise to the call. Our crews quickly and safely restored power during storms in our area, as well as aiding in storm restoration efforts when Hurricane Michael hit Florida. When it comes to public power, we are stronger when we work together.

In 2018, LES launched several new programs to enhance our engagement with customers and provide offerings they’d find beneficial. Our new electric vehicle study focused on getting information to support our customer’s transition to electric vehicles. The new LES Peak Rewards program offers our customers a way to use electricity more efficiently through their smart thermostats.

Our customers continued enjoying electric service ranked nationally for both affordability and reliability, all while maintaining our generating portfolio at roughly one-third coal, one-third natural gas and one-third renewable energy.

LES’ leadership was pleased to announce another year with no rate increase. And, for the third year in a row, Lincoln boasted the lowest average residential bill in the Big Ten Conference.

LES was recognized in the industry and received the Reliable Public Power (RP3®) Diamond designation from the American Public Power Association which recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. You can be assured that the LES Administrative Board and staff will continue their forward-thinking efforts to do what is best for the utility and its customer-owners.

At the end of the day, we have a great group of employees who are part of the community they serve and who work diligently to provide high quality service, doing what it takes to keep the lights on. Our power with a purpose stems from matching our values with those of our community.
